Elon Musk has confirmed plans to rename SpaceX’s artificial intelligence arm, SpaceXAI, as SpaceXSI, following President Donald Trump’s executive order replacing “Artificial Intelligence” with “Super Intelligence” across the US executive branch.
“Yes, we will make that change,” the SpaceX and Tesla chief said on X, responding to a user who asked whether SpaceXAI could be renamed SpaceXSI.
In a separate post, Musk wrote: “No more AI. SI, it’s better.”
His response confirmed the planned name change but did not specify a rollout date or announce changes to the unit’s technology or operations.
WHAT TRUMP’S ORDER CHANGES #
Trump signed the executive order, titled “Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence”, on September 29.

Read Now The Health and Wellness Issue It directs executive branch departments and agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in official correspondence, public communications, policy documents and non-statutory documents.
The White House said the terminology was intended to recognise the advancing technological frontier and its potential benefits for Americans.
The directive concerns federal executive branch usage. Musk’s announcement extends the terminology shift to the naming of SpaceX’s AI arm; the supplied report does not indicate that the order requires private companies to rebrand.
A FEDERAL DEFINITION TO FOLLOW #
The order also tasks the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology with proposing a federal definition of “Super Intelligence” and “SI” that reflects the state of the technology.
The official must identify any additional executive action needed to implement the proposed definition.
“President Trump has taken decisive action to ensure that the United States leads and wins in Super Intelligence and that all Americans benefit from Super Intelligence and its vast economic benefits,” the White House fact sheet said.
The announcement therefore involves both an immediate change in government terminology and a further process to define the term at the federal level. Musk’s posts addressed the branding decision, without setting out a technical definition of his own.
MUSK’S EARLIER WARNINGS #
Musk has previously expressed concern about the risks posed by superintelligence.
He endorsed Nick Bostrom’s 2014 book, Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies, which examined the dangers associated with superintelligent systems escaping human control. Musk has also warned that such technology could pose a greater danger than nuclear weapons.
His latest comments focus on adopting the new name. The proposed SpaceXSI branding does not, by itself, establish any change in the capabilities of the technology it describes.
