# eBay CEO says AI drives 50% increase in US listings per lister

The company's 'Magical Listing' tool has generated over 500 million AI-assisted listings and cut average listing times by more than 25%

Selling your old stuff online used to require the patience of a saint and the copywriting skills of a mid-career marketer. eBay’s bet is that AI can handle both, and the early numbers suggest it’s working.

CEO Jamie Iannone revealed that eBay’s “Magical Listing” AI tool has driven a greater than 50% increase in listings per lister across the US since becoming the default experience for new and reactivated sellers on mobile. The tool, which rolled out in Q1 2026, essentially lets sellers snap a photo with their smartphone and watches as eBay’s AI handles the rest: photo selection, title generation, categorization, item specifics, and pricing recommendations.

## The numbers behind the magic trick

eBay says the tool has produced over 500 million AI-assisted listings since launch. Average listing times have dropped by more than 25%.

eBay is also reporting double-digit percentage gains in both sold items and Gross Merchandise Value per lister. Customer satisfaction with the tool exceeds 95%.

The underlying technology draws on eBay’s proprietary AI models, its product knowledge graph, and roughly three decades of marketplace data.

## Going global, one market at a time

eBay started expanding Magical Listing to international markets in April 2026, beginning with Germany. By Q2 2026, the feature had been fully introduced to new and reactivated sellers in the UK, Australia, and Germany. Early results in those markets are tracking similar positive trends to what eBay observed in the US.

The company’s Q2 2026 financials reflect the broader momentum. Revenue climbed 15% to $3.13 billion, while GMV grew approximately 14-15% to $22.4 billion. eBay subsequently raised its full-year guidance following the strong quarterly results reported in early August.

## The buying agent ban and what it signals

eBay banned third-party autonomous AI buying agents in February 2026. Iannone reaffirmed the US listing growth during Q2 2026 results alongside the buying agent policy, framing both as complementary pieces of eBay’s broader AI strategy.

The categories seeing the strongest tailwinds from these changes include C2C markets, recommerce, fashion, collectibles, and motors.
