Trinity Audioplayer ready...CONCORD – The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a temporary deputy sheriff it says was involved in thefts from its property services unit office in Concord.

The deputy — identified as Kevin Lee, 62, of Martinez — was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of burglary, receiving stolen property, embezzlement and possession of an assault weapon, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Additional details about the case, including what exactly was stolen and when, were not available Tuesday night.

The sheriff’s office said Lee is being held at the Martinez Detention Facility on $160,000 bail.

Lee joined the sheriff’s office in May 1990 as a deputy sheriff, the sheriff’s office said, adding that he became a temporary deputy sheriff in 2012 and was assigned to the property services unit.

The sheriff’s office said it plans to ask the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training to conduct an independent audit of the property services unit.

“All Sheriff’s Office employees are held to the highest standards and any employee who is involved in criminal conduct will be held accountable,” Contra Costa County Sheriff David Livingston said in a statement. “This matter was taken seriously, and a thorough investigation was immediately launched once we learned about it.”
