DS1Edit is a cross-platform level editor for Diablo II .ds1 files, ported to Allegro 5. It features GPU-accelerated rendering, built-in map discovery, and automated testing tiers. Development was co-authored with Claude Opus 5.5.
DS1Edit is a level editor for Diablo II that allows creation and modification of game maps (.ds1 files). The project is a continuation of Paul Siramy's win_ds1edit, ported from Allegro 4 to Allegro 5 to provide GPU-accelerated rendering. The editor runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS. It reads game assets directly from MPQ archives and supports a mod-directory overlay. The author reports that the editor includes features such as multi-zoom levels, keyboard navigation, and checked saves with automatic backups. The project includes a test suite with fast, check, and full tiers, utilizing headless mode for CI and golden screenshot comparisons. Claude Opus 5.5 is credited as a co-author on multiple commits, including work on test infrastructure, defect fixes, and CI configuration. The editor requires a local installation of Diablo II to access tiles and sprites. Linux builds require system Allegro 5 and an OpenGL driver. The macOS GUI launch has not been verified by the maintainers. See the project README for configuration and build instructions.
