Character.AI complied with the request.\n\t\n\n\tNo hard feelings, apparently: Disney announced that Anand will join the company as senior executive vice president and chief technology officer, a newly created position, effective Oct. 2. He will report directly to D’Amaro, who [took over as CEO of Disney in March](https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/josh-damaro-disney-ceo-first-day-memo-1236692415/). In addition to Anand’s appointment, “a number of Character.AI’s technical team” are expected to join Disney, the company said. \n\n### Popular on Variety\n\nPrior to Character.AI, Anand served president and chief product officer of financial technology company Brex. He also held several leadership roles at Meta’s Facebook, most recently as VP of ads and business products. Earlier in his career, Anand had senior product and engineering leadership roles at Microsoft, where he worked for 15 years and was part of the team that built the Azure cloud-computing platform.\n\n“Karandeep brings a rare mix of experience across infrastructure, consumer technology and AI, and will be a vital addition to Disney’s senior leadership team as we further our three priorities: great storytelling as our North Star, technology in service of creativity, and operating as One Disney,” D’Amaro said in a statement. “He is an expert builder and strategist, technical and product-minded, with sharp instincts for what fans actually want.”\n\nD’Amaro added, “He also has real enthusiasm and respect for Disney, a clear sense of where technology and creativity meet, and shares our belief that technology creates the most value when it helps people do their best work.”\n\nAs CTO, Anand will oversee enterprise technology, infrastructure, data and AI platforms, product and engineering. He will work across the technology teams in Disney’s segments to “further modernize” how the company builds and delivers technology company-wide.\n\n\tDisney has not had a CTO per se, until now. He subsequently also served as co-president of DTC alongside Joe Earley, who is now in the newly created role of president of Disney Entertainment Television franchise and content strategy.\n\n\tAccording to Disney, the hiring of Anand illustrates that D’Amaro is sharpening the company’s focus on technology as a growth driver. Anand is well-suited to help achieve that goal, according to Disney, as he brings experience spanning consumer technology, infrastructure, product development and AI.\n\nAnand said in a statement, “I’ve admired Disney my entire life for how it blends unforgettable storytelling with the latest technology to constantly push the boundaries of what entertainment can be. I’m honored to join a team with such extraordinary creative talent, and I look forward to building on the company’s impressive technology capabilities to help Disney connect fans worldwide with its beloved stories and characters in new and innovative ways.”\n\nAnand holds a computer science degree from the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad.
