Developed an AI-Powered Procrastination Guard

A developer built the Procrastination Guard, a Manifest V3 Chrome extension that uses the locally run Gemma 2B open-weight model via Ollama to detect when a user has spent 30 seconds doomscrolling on a social media site and then generates a pop-up prompting them to close the tab or take a five-minute break. The extension relies on HTML, JavaScript and local storage, keeping all processing on-device so no user data leaves the machine and the tool works offline at no cost.

This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady I built an AI-powered procrastination monitoring chrome extension that's powered by Gemma 2B that prompts the user to close the tab or take a 5-minute break after doomscrolling on any social media platform for 30 seconds. It helps users get back to business but it also entirely depends on the user if they'd want to take a 5-minute break and be lazy for longer.

I built the Procrastination Guard as a Manifest V3 Chrome Extension using HTML & Javascript scripts, local storage, and Ollama to run the Gemma 2B open-weight model which dynamically generates reminders and pop-ups to the screen.

Open Innovation matters because it ensures privacy for sensitive data. Since open-weight models allow us to develop and run applications entirely local, there is no private or sensitive data being shared to others other than ourselves (the user). Open Innovation is also significant because it runs offline and is entirely free which helps reduce costs and ensure that it can run anywhere despite having a low internet connection.

Just used it just recently since I have upcoming exams and activities piling up and it was difficult for me to focus since I, out of instinct, open any social media app on my browser such as Facebook or Instagram. Luckily, this chrome extension I made saved me time to study and work on my schoolworks.
