Deutsche Telekom anoints CTO with Comcast chief network veteran and AWS VP Jan Hofmeyr

Deutsche Telekom (DT) appointed Jan Hofmeyr, an AWS vice president and former Comcast chief network officer, as its new CTO and board member for product and technology, effective November. Hofmeyr replaces Abdu Mudesir, who left in spring to join Verizon. The appointment is part of a management reshuffle that also names Mladen Mitic as chief product and digital officer, as DT pursues a restructuring that aims to save around $1 billion in group costs by 2027, partly through AI-driven efficiencies.

Deutsche Telekom (DT) appointed Amazon Web Services (AWS) VP Jan Hofmeyr as its new CTO.

Hofmeyr's new role will be as board of management member for product and technology, replacing Abdu Mudesir, who left the role in spring to later join Verizon’s ranks. Hofmeyr is due to begin in the role in November.

Hofmeyr has been at Amazon since 2021, managing AWS Edge Services before leading the hyperscaler’s telecom segment. AWS recently published a blog post from Hofmeyr on the AI-native nature of 6G.

More telecom prestige on his resume is represented by Comcast, where he worked between 2009 and 2021 as SVP for Comcast Cable with an overlapping role from 2018 as EVP and chief network officer for the main Comcast group.

DT Supervisory Board Chair Frank Appel noted that with Hofmeyr, DT is “bringing on board a technology expert with extensive international experience who is equally familiar with telecommunications and the world of major technology platforms.

“This combination will be very important for the next phase of our network development and technological transformation,” Appel added.

"Deutsche Telekom is one of the few companies worldwide that combines a strong telecommunications foundation, international reach, and the ability to industrialize technology at scale," Hofmeyr noted in a statement. "This combination puts us in an exceptional position for the years ahead. … Together, we want to bring networks, cloud, AI, and digital platforms even closer together – with the ambition not only to use technology, but to actively help shape the future of our industry."

DT's new digital talent #

Hofmeyr’s appointment came as part of a DT management reshuffle that sees Mladen Mitic named chief product and digital officer as of October. Mitic previously served as SVP for business-to-commercial (B2C) commercial growth in DT's Europe segment, and has 20 years of telecom experience including leadership positions at Telenor Norway and Slovak Telekom.

Mitic replaces Jonathan Abrahamson, who is leaving the company "at his own request," with no further details provided by DT. Abrahamson has served for almost a decade at DT following roles at Airtel, Singtel, and Optus.

The executive hirings come as DT pushes through with a restructuring initiative aiming to streamline operations by centralizing leaders and teams as it leans on AI as to save around $1 billion in group costs by 2027.

As part of that push, T-Mobile US laid off more than 4,500 employees in the first half of 2026.
