# Deploy a Claude agent or task as a workflow

October 17, 2026 · 2 min read

Claude Code is where an agent figures out a job. When that job repeats on a schedule or an event, Claude Code can turn it into a Whenever workflow: fixed steps in code, a model call only where judgment is needed, and triggers, secrets and run history on Whenever.

AI steps have no same-output guarantee and incur runtime AI usage when they run. Code-only steps keep following the rules you approve.

* APIs and MCP servers must be reachable from Whenever’s hosted runtime. Required credentials, permissions and provider plans still apply; private-network-only services are not automatically accessible.

## From a Claude task to a deployed workflow

Three steps, and the last one is yours.

### Give Claude Code the skill

**Install**

Connect the Whenever MCP server and save the skill to ~/.claude/skills, or paste the one-line prompt into any session.

### Point it at the task

**Refactor**

A SKILL.md, a routine’s prompt or a CLAUDE.md procedure. It separates the fixed steps from the judgment calls and writes a workflow module.

### Review, set up, publish

**Deploy**

It saves a draft. You enter credentials in Setup, run it once by hand, and publish.

Claude Code does the refactor; you approve access and publish.

## What changes when a Claude task becomes a workflow

Same job, different runtime.

### The plan is fixed

The steps the agent chose last time become code, so each run follows them instead of re-planning.

### The model is optional

Classification, summaries and drafts can stay AI steps; they vary and use AI-spend allowance.

### It runs off your machine

Desktop scheduled tasks need the app open and the computer awake. A published workflow runs on Whenever’s schedule or webhook.

### Cloud routines are an alternative

Claude routines already run in Anthropic’s cloud without your laptop; pick Whenever when the job is a fixed business procedure across your tools.

## Deploy it, or keep it in Claude?

### Deploy it to Whenever when

- The job repeats and follows the same steps each time
- It touches business tools through APIs or webhooks
- You want per-run pricing and a run history someone else can read

### Keep it in Claude when

- The work is repo-aware: code review, maintenance, investigation
- Each run genuinely needs fresh reasoning
- It only makes sense inside a Claude Code session

## A few useful answers

### Can I deploy a Claude Agent SDK app to Whenever?

Not as-is. Whenever runs workflow modules, not agent processes; the skill rewrites the agent’s recurring job as a workflow.

### Do routines and cloud sessions load the Whenever skill?

Not from ~/.claude/skills. Commit it to the repository’s .claude/skills, or paste the prompt.

### Is there a CLI?

No. Deployment goes through the MCP server or the web app.
