Databricks says this is a self-improving context layer that helps with understanding a business completely from its data. A customer’s AI developers can create reusable agents and applications with Genie Agents and Genie App Builder, all connected to their data with access controls, permissions, and cost governance built in.\n\nAli Ghodsi, Databricks co-founder and CEO, said: “Most enterprise AI today is just guessing with false confidence. That is not good enough for business. If you're a CFO and AI can't tell you why margins changed, or you're a sales leader, and it can't find your next upsell, that's not an AI problem, that's a context problem. Genie Ontology continuously learns context from data everywhere, so our answers are much faster and our agents are more accurate. That's the difference between an AI chatbot and an agentic coworker who knows your business inside out — every metric, every data source, every answer. Every CEO and business leader should have Genie at their fingertips.”\n\nGenie Ontology automatically extracts and continuously updates business knowledge from Databricks as well as AI tools and more than 50 popular apps and data systems for business users across databases, files, tickets, chats, and meetings. It builds a knowledge graph of his data. Current integrations include Google Drive, Jira, Slack, Confluence, SharePoint, and more. Enterprise data assets are ranked, we understand, using an OntoRank concept; think Google PageRank for Ontology business knowledge entities.\n\nThis new ontology context layer enables Genie to deliver more accurate answers with reduced latency and lower costs for data-intensive questions. It provides a ground truth, a master data record as it were, so different AI Agents operating on a corpus of an organization’s data share a common set of definitions and background information.\n\nThe first generation of [Genie](https://www.blocksandfiles.com/security/2026/03/25/databricks-lakewatch-to-unleash-agentic-swarms-on-malware-detect-and-destroy-missions/5211505) provided conversational analytics on data stored in Databricks. Genie One goes much further, connecting users to data in Databricks and a wide range of connected applications. It does more than just answering questions, producing documents, reports, and artifacts, and is a step-function change in automating data work. Users get visual interfaces, including interactive charts and graphs, and can set up alerts for always-on monitoring, schedule tasks, create repeatable skills, and take action anywhere, with MCP tools.\n\nThe details:\n\nGenie One is available on the web, iOS, and Android.\n\nGenie Agents allow teams to save any Genie conversation as a reusable agent that inherits the conversation’s memory, including its sources, instructions, and behavior, so coworkers can call on it by name and repeat workflows across teams. Employees can create and share agent skills with each other for consistent, repeatable answer formats and workflows.\n\nGenie App Builder is a fully managed vibe coding environment. Teams can upload business context, and Genie App Builder generates a live build plan and working app preview connected to real, governed enterprise data. These applications (built for internal teams or customers) run safely and cost-effectively with Unity Catalog permissions and access controls built in from the start.\n\nGenie Code is an autonomous AI agent that helps data teams plan, build, and run data engineering, machine learning, and analytics workflows. It includes a dedicated workspace to track progress, review steps, and switch between threads to work across projects.\n\nGenie ZeroOps is a new background agent built into Databricks that autonomously monitors, investigates, and proposes fixes for data and AI assets such as pipelines, jobs, tables, ML models and more.\n\nRead more about Genie on the [ Databricks blog](http://databricks.com/blog/introducing-genie-one-genie-ontology-and-genie-agents).\n\n**OpenSharing**\n\nDatabricks also launched OpenSharing, an open standard for sharing data and AI assets across organisations and platforms, which is hosted by the Linux Foundation. It builds on Delta Sharing, Databricks’ zero-copy way of sharing third-party data with customers using its own data.\n\nIt says OpenSharing introduces the first open, vendor-neutral protocol for securely sharing AI assets, including Agent Skills, AI models, and unstructured data, enabling secure collaboration and monetisation of assets in the AI era. It extends the broad cross-platform Delta Sharing ecosystem by adding support for Iceberg IRC (Iceberg REST Catalog) clients, expanding data providers’ reach to more recipients. Customers can now also access on-premises or private-cloud assets via OpenSharing, including through storage partners such as Everpure, MinIO, and Qumulo.\n\n**Availability**\n\nGenie has no seat-based pricing and organisations get up to $10 free for every user every month, so organisations pay only for the AI actually used. Genie One, Genie Agents, and Genie Code are now generally available. Genie App Builder and Genie ZeroOps will enter private preview shortly after the Data + AI Summit. Genie is now available as native iOS and Android apps.\n\n##### Bootnote\n\nOntology is the philosophical study of being with the structure of being separated into unique particulars and common universals, and also into concrete and abstract entities.", "url": "https://wpnews.pro/news/databricks-lets-a-genie-one-ai-agent-coworker-out-of-its-magic-lamp", "canonical_source": "https://www.blocksandfiles.com/ai-ml/2026/06/18/databricks-lets-a-genie-one-ai-agent-coworker-out-of-its-magic-lamp/5258187", "published_at": "2026-06-18 13:11:11+00:00", "updated_at": "2026-06-18 13:24:42.913247+00:00", "lang": "en", "topics": ["artificial-intelligence", "ai-agents", "ai-products", "ai-tools", "ai-infrastructure"], "entities": ["Databricks", "Genie One", "Genie Ontology", "Ali Ghodsi", "Google Drive", "Jira", "Slack", "Confluence"], "alternates": {"html": "https://wpnews.pro/news/databricks-lets-a-genie-one-ai-agent-coworker-out-of-its-magic-lamp", "markdown": "https://wpnews.pro/news/databricks-lets-a-genie-one-ai-agent-coworker-out-of-its-magic-lamp.md", "text": "https://wpnews.pro/news/databricks-lets-a-genie-one-ai-agent-coworker-out-of-its-magic-lamp.txt", "jsonld": "https://wpnews.pro/news/databricks-lets-a-genie-one-ai-agent-coworker-out-of-its-magic-lamp.jsonld"}}
