You query metrics with [PromQL](https://dash0.com/docs/dash0/telemetry/metrics/write-effective-promql-queries), and our dashboards are based on [Perses](https://dash0.com/changelog/configuration-as-code-for-dashboards-and-check-rules). None of those formats are ours.\n\nWe've made the same choice elsewhere. We built [OTelBin](https://www.otelbin.io/) and made it freely available. Our [coding agent telemetry plugins](https://dash0.com/blog/introducing-ai-coding-insights-stop-guessing-what-your-coding-agents-deliver) are open source and emit OpenTelemetry. And with [Polar Signals](https://dash0.com/blog/dash0-acquires-polar-signals), we brought in the team behind Parca and their work on open standards for profiling.\n\nThis isn't just idealism. We don't want proprietary formats to be the reason you stay with Dash0. We're getting better at describing individual model calls, but there is still a lot of work to do when it comes to describing the behavior of an agent.\n\nWhich tools did it call? What was it trying to accomplish? What happened across an entire agent run? And how do we represent all of that consistently without every framework and vendor inventing its own vocabulary?\n\nThese are questions we're already running into while building and instrumenting agentic systems ourselves.\n\nThey're also some of the conversations we want to be part of within the AAIF.\n\n## [**Where we want to contribute**](#where-we-want-to-contribute)\n\n**Where we want to contribute**\n\nOne area we're particularly interested in is the AAIF's [Observability & Traceability working group](https://github.com/aaif/wg-observability-and-traceability).\n\nThere's an interesting intersection between the protocols emerging for agentic systems and the work already happening around GenAI in OpenTelemetry. It's also an area where we think we can bring useful experience from our work with OpenTelemetry, Agent0, MCP, and agent instrumentation more broadly.\n\nThere are still plenty of open questions here, and that's precisely why we think it's important to participate in these conversations as the ecosystem develops.\n\nI've already been involved personally since joining the first AAIF Ambassador cohort in June.
