IFA 2026 put computing, connected homes and appliances at the center of a wider push for local intelligence.
The throughline in today’s coverage is IFA 2026's attempt to move intelligence closer to the devices people use, from workstation-class silicon to household appliances. The show’s announcements also suggest that hardware makers are treating this shift as a whole-product strategy, spanning phones, displays, smart-home control and robotics.
Computing and connected devices #
AMD set the performance end of that agenda with its local AI hardware announcements, including chips intended for 125-billion-parameter models and a 96-core Threadripper Halo Station. That is a striking signal of how much compute vendors expect to be required outside the data center, particularly when local workloads are becoming a selling point rather than a niche capability.
The consumer-device side was just as crowded. Our roundup of IFA’s Xiaomi, Anker and LG highlights brought together Xiaomi’s 18 Fold, Anker’s local smart-home hub, Lenovo’s long-supported tablet and LG’s award-winning OLED TVs. Taken together, those launches show a market where intelligence is being packaged alongside more familiar promises: flexible screens, longer support, home integration and premium picture quality.
The intelligent home expands #
Haier carried the same premise into the home’s largest and most practical machines. Its Vision 15, Maestro fridge and exoskeleton showcase combined appliances with humanoid robots and an adaptive exoskeleton, backed by a planned €13 billion investment. The breadth of that presentation matters: IFA’s push is not confined to personal electronics, but reaches into domestic work and physical assistance as well.
