The acqui-hire brings production monitoring expertise into Cursor's coding platform, closing the loop between writing code and shipping it safely.
Writing code is the easy part. Knowing whether that code is actually working in production, without setting something on fire, is where things get complicated. Cursor is betting that bringing the Firetiger team on board will help solve exactly that problem.
Cursor announced on August 13, 2026, that the Firetiger team is joining the company to help build agents capable of handling production tasks and resolving live issues autonomously. The Firetiger product itself will be sunset, with new signups closed and existing customers notified about data deletion as the technology gets folded into Cursor’s platform.
What Firetiger actually built #
Firetiger, founded in 2024 by Rustam Lalkaka and Achille Roussel, built tooling around what they called Change Monitors: automated checks that assess code diffs from pull requests and verify whether a deployment had the intended effect.
The system integrated with GitHub, OpenTelemetry, Datadog, Slack, and AWS and GCP, meaning it could sit inside workflows that engineering teams were already using.
The company had raised $7.6 million in seed funding, a round led by Sequoia Capital announced in February 2026, to advance this monitoring and observability approach.
A Cursor plugin for Firetiger also existed before the acquisition, which gave the two products some surface-area overlap. That prior integration makes the full acqui-hire feel less like a cold merger and more like a natural next step for two teams that had already been building toward each other.
Closing the gap between development and deployment #
Cursor’s pitch has always been built around the phrase “autonomous software development for all.” Bringing Firetiger’s expertise in-house is Cursor’s attempt to merge what they call the development loop and the production agent loop into a single coherent system. The ambition is an agent that can write code, deploy it, watch how it performs, and fix problems, without a human needing to stitch those phases together manually.
For existing Firetiger customers, the transition to a sunsetting process is less comfortable. Existing customers are being notified about data deletion, which is a straightforward but abrupt end for a product that had paying users only months after its seed round closed.
