July 29, 2026, (Inside AI) — Andrew Ng, the co-founder of Coursera, has secured a $100 million investment from the online learning giant to launch LearnVector, a new AI education startup targeting white-collar workers. The deal, announced Tuesday in San Francisco, values LearnVector at approximately $300 million, with Coursera taking a one-third stake.
Ng, a prominent AI researcher and general partner at AI Fund, will serve as CEO of the new venture. He said LearnVector aims to upskill professionals whose roles are being reshaped by automation, rejecting the notion that AI will cause mass job losses.

LearnVector plans to use third-party AI foundation models to build personalized learning paths that adapt to each user's progress. The first courses are expected early next year, though pricing and exact offerings remain under development. Ng intends to sell to corporations, governments, and higher education institutions.
Coursera's investment represents about 13% of its $790 million in cash reserves as of March. The company, which went public in 2021, has seen its stock fluctuate amid a broader edtech slowdown. This bet on LearnVector signals a strategic pivot toward AI-driven corporate training, a market projected to reach $49.6 billion by 2027 according to Grand View Research.
Ng's thesis challenges prevailing narratives. Companies like Amazon, Meta, and Block have cited AI efficiencies in recent layoffs. Yet a 2025 National Bureau of Economic Research working paper found that AI adoption correlates more with task restructuring than net job loss. Ng doubled down on this view.

Coursera and LearnVector will co-develop and co-market courses, according to a statement. Ng is expected to join Coursera's earnings call on Wednesday to discuss the funding. The startup is currently hiring engineers.
Ng's move comes as the AI education space grows crowded. Rivals like Udacity and DeepLearning.AI, which Ng also founded, offer similar upskilling. But LearnVector's focus on adaptive, AI-generated curricula could differentiate it. Ng declined to name other investors or total funding needs.
