We're the most sophisticated country in the world, and frankly, I want to keep it that way because whoever wins AI wins,' Trump told reporters at his golf course in Doonbeg while attending the Irish Open on Sunday. Trump also denied the idea that AI advances will mean the end of the human race when asked about it by reporters, noting that those were 'things that won't happen.' Jacob Coxon, a former researcher for [OpenAI](/sciencetech/openai/index.html) and Anthropic, the companies behind chatbots [ChatGPT](/sciencetech/chatgpt/index.html) and Claude, told [Fox News](/news/fox-news/index.html) anchor Bret Baier on Wednesday on his show Special Report  that  AI could destroy humanity as soon as 2030.  US President Donald Trump addressed AI while he attending the final round of the Irish Open golf tournament at the Trump International Golf Links & Hotel, a resort and golf course owned by the president, in Doonbeg, western Ireland on September 13, 2026 Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon, who recently left the company, sounded the alarm on artificial intelligence, calling it "possibly the most dangerous technology that humanity has ever created" in a Fox News interview last week Baier was left stunned after he spoke to the Anthropic whistleblower about the 'dangerous technology' that he believes will end humanity.  'So unfortunately, we know how to control [nuclear weapons](/news/nuclear-weapons/index.html) pretty much, we don't yet know how to control AI,' Coxon said to Baier. In an interview on CNN Sunday morning, House Republican Speaker Mike Johnson chimed in on the issue as well, noting, 'We can not put a moratorium on this because China will overlap us.' Johnson also encouraged AI leaders to come to Washington for a meeting with Congressional leaders and the administration to see what, if any, role the government can play in regulating the technology. The top House Republican also added that the role of government should not be to 'smother American innovation.' Per the New York Times, former President Barack Obama has also shared his thoughts on the matter at a recent private gathering. 'This is something that is moving very fast in private hands, and if we don't get on top of it, I think can be dangerous,' the Times claimed Obama stated at an event last Thursday. Obama, who believes that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries will be the next Speaker after the November elections, also urged the top Democrat to act. 'Once you are speaker, I would strongly urge that the Democrats put together a framework for a very public conversation,' Obama told Jeffries per the Times.
