Highlights of the new release include a [Model Context Protocol](https://www.infoworld.com/article/4029634/what-is-model-context-protocol-how-mcp-bridges-ai-and-external-services.html) (MCP) server for AI agents in Compose Hot Reload, automatic font fallback for the web applications, and a new version of the window and dialog API for desktop apps.\n\nCompose Multiplatform 1.12.0 was unveiled [August 26](https://blog.jetbrains.com/kotlin/2026/08/compose-multiplatform-1-12-0/#window-and-dialog-api-v2). With the new release, Compose Hot Reload now includes an experimental MCP server that connects AI coding agents to running Compose applications. Using the MCP server, an agent can trigger reloads, take screenshots, inspect the semantic tree, simulate clicks and text input, and read application logs, JetBrains said, allowing it to verify the results of its own edits.\n\nCompose Multiplatform for web now handles characters that the fonts of the application doesn’t cover. When an unresolved character is encountered during rendering, Compose Multiplatform for web downloads the matching Noto font subset and recomposes the affected text. As a result, Japanese, Arabic, Devanagari, and emoji render correctly without developers having to bundle fonts for them, JetBrains said.\n\nCompose Multiplatform 1.12.0 also introduces an experimental version 2 of the API for `WindowState`\n\nand `DialogState`\n\nin the `androidx.compose.ui.window.v2`\n\npackage. The new API provides finer control over how windows and dialogs are positioned and sized, allowing developers to select the screen a window appears on, provide custom positioning and sizing logic, set minimum and maximum window sizes, and position dialogs relative to their parent window, JetBrains said.\n\nJetBrains provided two examples of using the API v2. First, developers can use `WindowPositionProvider`\n\nand `WindowSizeProvider`\n\nto center a window and give it a fixed size:\n\n```\nval windowState = rememberWindowState(\n    initialBoundsProvider = WindowBoundsProvider(\n        positionProvider = WindowPositionProvider.CenteredOnScreen,\n        sizeProvider = WindowSizeProvider.Fixed(DpSize(400.dp, 200.dp))\n    )\n)\n```\n\nSecond, developers can use `WindowSizeProvider.Unconstrained`\n\nto size a window to its content initially, while allowing that content to expand with `fillMaxSize()`\n\nwhen the user enlarges the window:\n\n```\nWindowBoundsProvider(\n    positionProvider = WindowPositionProvider.CenteredOnScreen,\n    sizeProvider = WindowSizeProvider.Unconstrained\n)\n```\n\nThe full release notes for Compose Multiplatform 1.12.0 are [available here](https://github.com/JetBrains/compose-multiplatform/releases/tag/v1.12.0).", "url": "https://wpnews.pro/news/compose-multiplatform-1-12-0-welcomes-coding-agents-with-mcp-server", "canonical_source": "https://www.infoworld.com/article/4216661/compose-multiplatform-1-12-0-welcomes-coding-agents-with-mcp-server.html", "published_at": "2026-09-01 04:26:18+00:00", "updated_at": "2026-09-01 04:51:40.463418+00:00", "lang": "en", "topics": ["developer-tools", "ai-agents", "ai-tools"], "entities": ["JetBrains", "Compose Multiplatform", "Model Context Protocol", "Compose Hot Reload"], "alternates": {"html": "https://wpnews.pro/news/compose-multiplatform-1-12-0-welcomes-coding-agents-with-mcp-server", "markdown": "https://wpnews.pro/news/compose-multiplatform-1-12-0-welcomes-coding-agents-with-mcp-server.md", "text": "https://wpnews.pro/news/compose-multiplatform-1-12-0-welcomes-coding-agents-with-mcp-server.txt", "jsonld": "https://wpnews.pro/news/compose-multiplatform-1-12-0-welcomes-coding-agents-with-mcp-server.jsonld"}}
