Cloudflare launches permanent ID tool and wallet for AI shopping, with stablecoin payments baked in

Cloudflare launched cloudflare.id, a persistent identity tool and wallet that lets AI agents verify their identity and make payments, with transactions settling in USDC on Coinbase's Base layer-2 blockchain via the x402 protocol. The company reports that 57% of web traffic consists of bots and has partnered with Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Experian, and GoDaddy to build trust infrastructure for AI commerce. Cloudflare plans to launch its Monetization Gateway on July 1, 2026, enabling website owners to charge AI agents for access.

The cloud giant is building infrastructure for AI agents to shop, pay, and prove their identity online, and the payment rails run through USDC on Base.

Cloudflare just made it possible for your AI agent to have its own identity card and wallet. The cloud computing giant announced cloudflare.id, a persistent identity tool that lets merchants verify an AI agent is actually acting on your behalf, paired with a wallet that holds funds for the agent to spend.

Here’s the thing: this isn’t just another enterprise product launch. The wallet functionality connects to the x402 open protocol, which Cloudflare developed in collaboration with Coinbase through the x402 Foundation. That protocol settles payments peer-to-peer in USDC on Base, Coinbase’s layer-2 blockchain.

The bot economy goes legit #

The timing matters. According to Cloudflare, roughly 57% of web traffic today consists of bots. Cloudflare is positioning itself as the trust layer for this new reality. The company introduced Web Bot Auth and collaborated on the Trusted Agent Protocol with Visa, which has been integrated into Visa Intelligent Commerce. Mastercard and American Express are also part of the payment integration picture, meaning AI agents can transact securely without exposing sensitive user credentials to merchants.

Cloudflare also partnered with Experian to implement what they’re calling the Agent Trust identity framework, adding another layer of verification. And a collaboration with GoDaddy announced in April 2026 aims to establish standards for agent transparency and control across web properties.

The x402 protocol and stablecoin rails #

The x402 protocol, launched in 2025, uses HTTP 402 responses to trigger payments. When an AI agent hits a paywall, an API endpoint, or a premium dataset, the x402 protocol lets the agent pay automatically in USDC on Base. No prior account needed. No login flow. No checkout page. The payment settles at the edge, right where the content lives.

On July 1, 2026, Cloudflare plans to launch its Monetization Gateway, a platform built on x402 that will let website owners, API providers, and dataset publishers charge AI agents for access. Cloudflare’s Agents SDK has also been upgraded to support x402 natively. Developers can now manage agent authentication and payments programmatically.
