*The feature works inside meeting spaces, not after them: @mention an agent in Webex and it pulls data or builds a deck while the call is still going.*

Cisco unveiled Claude Managed Agents inside Webex at WebexOne 2026 in Austin on October 7, letting AI agents join spaces, meetings and calls to carry out multi-step tasks across Webex and outside apps. In Cisco's own example, someone @mentions an analytics agent in a Webex space to pull usage numbers. Then they ask a presentation agent to drop those figures straight into a PowerPoint deck, live, without anyone touching the file themselves.

That's a meaningful jump from where workplace AI has been sitting for the last two years. Chatbots that summarize a transcript after the fact are useful, but they're reactive. What Cisco is describing is an agent that acts as a standing participant in your team's workflow, capable of being pulled into a conversation and handed a task the way you'd hand it to a colleague.

The build runs on Anthropic's Claude Managed Agents, cloud-hosted agents that handle background, multi-step work and can sit inside group conversations as something closer to an active member than a bolted-on feature. According to Cisco's announcement, teams will be able to invite these agents directly into Webex spaces to schedule meetings, track tasks and generate content using shared enterprise context already sitting inside the platform.

Here's the part that matters for anyone watching the broader AI distribution fight: Cisco isn't making Webex a Claude-only product. According to reporting picked up alongside the Cisco news, Webex will also bring in OpenAI's Dots agents, the always-on AI assistants OpenAI introduced at its DevDay event in September. The two biggest names in frontier AI will sit inside the same collaboration app, available to the same enterprise customers. For Anthropic, landing inside Webex is a real distribution win outside its own chat interface. For Cisco, hedging across both labs is the obvious move: no IT department wants its collaboration suite locked to a single vendor's model.

OpenAI launched GPT-6 Sol and Luna on September 22 with API prices cut roughly 50% from the GPT-5.6 line, landing the same week Anthropic shipped Opus 5.5 and xAI released Grok 4.7. All three labs are now competing as much on price as on benchmarks, a shift that changes the economics for any founder building on top of these models. - [openai launches GPT-6 Sol and Luna models pricing](https://startupfortune.com/openai-launches-gpt-6-sol-and-luna-at-half-the-price-the-same-week-rivals-ship-too/) - [new GPT-6 models half price competitor releases week](https://startupfortune.com/openai-launches-gpt-6-sol-and-luna-at-half-the-price-the-same-week-rivals-ship-too/)

The agent layer doesn't arrive alone. Cisco also announced RoomOS 27, the operating system for its meeting-room hardware, shipping in November 2026. The headline feature there isn't AI at all. RoomOS 27 adds native Google Meet support to Cisco's room devices through a new partnership with Google, putting Meet alongside Webex, Microsoft Teams and Zoom on the same hardware. That's Cisco acknowledging that most conference rooms now have to serve whatever video platform a given customer or partner happens to be running.

The third piece is Dialog, a new agentic harness for the Webex AI Agent platform aimed specifically at customer experience rather than internal collaboration. Cisco is pairing Dialog with a control plane called AI Agent 360. It's built to keep context persistent across a customer issue, so an agent can keep working a problem across channels and over time instead of resetting with every new ticket or call.

Cisco frames all three releases, the Webex agents, RoomOS 27 and Dialog, as covering three connected dimensions of the AI era: how people work, how the physical workplace adapts, and how businesses engage with customers. That's a tidy way of saying Cisco wants agentic AI running through every surface it sells, from the laptop app to the conference-room camera to the customer-service desk.

Most of this is still a preview. Cisco says the bulk of these features, including the deeper Claude Managed Agents capabilities, are planned for early 2027, with RoomOS 27 the first piece to actually ship, in November. The architecture is real and announced now. The product most customers will actually touch is still months out.

What's notable is where this fight is happening. The assumption for the past year has been that agentic AI distribution would be decided inside chat interfaces, ChatGPT, Claude.ai, Gemini. Cisco's bet is different: the real battleground is the software people already have open all day. Whoever gets embedded there first, Anthropic or OpenAI or both, wins a slice of enterprise usage that never touches a standalone AI app at all.
