SAN FRANCISCO - AMD brought in Cisco to support observability and governance controls for its $4,000 compact, high-performance developer PCs.
The partnership was revealed at the Advancing AI event, with Cisco’s Splunk observability and monitoring offerings applying to Ryzen AI Halo hardware. The networking giant’s Secure Network will underpin the PCs, which are designed for powering intense AI and agentic workloads from the desktop.
For companies deploying Halo PC en masse for their developers, Cisco will support fleet-wide observability, tracking agent behavior, token usage, and compute utilization. DefenseClaw, the vendor’s open source agent security tool, adds guardrails directly on-device, ensuring policy enforcement is maintained. Speaking during the keynote, Cisco CPO Jeetu Patel said the rise of distributed inference going “everywhere” means every customer is talking about security. He said Cisco’s integrations mean that Halo users running agents can provide enforcement guardrails during runtime, should an agent start to misbehave or deviate from its tasks.
Another central play Patel talked up on stage was cost considerations. After stressing the importance of so-called ‘tokenomics’ when it comes to managing AI usage at Cisco’s Live event last month, the CPO said its work with AMD would ensure enterprises running on desktop Halos can tell how every single agent is performing, and whether or not they're consuming way too much kind of token costs.
“Every customer is really worried about token costs, and so we need to make sure that we can actually contain the costs of an agent's consumption of tokens when it actually starts to go up and down when needed,” Patel said.
He described Cisco’s work on Halo as providing a single unified management plane that lets enterprises “look at every single dimension that can be managed within one environment,” with the vendor’s Cloud Control platform acting as the overall management plane.
“You are able to go out and manage your entire estate of not just your Halo fleet, but also what you have running on the data centers, as well as what you have running in the cloud, so you could provide full visibility for the entirety of the estate,” he added.
