Chung Ki-sun calls for 20-year vision at HD Hyundai

HD Hyundai Chair Chung Ki-sun called for a 20-year vision focused on sustainable growth at an executive strategy meeting Thursday, warning against prioritizing short-term results. The meeting, held at the group's Global R&D Center in Pangyo, Gyeonggi Province, brought together Vice Chairmen Cho Young-cheul, Cho Seok and Lee Sang-kyun, and CEOs of 11 affiliates, and included a review of the group's artificial intelligence transformation strategy and information security safeguards. Chung delivered the message Thursday at an executive strategy meeting at the group’s Global R&D Center in Pangyo, Gyeonggi Province. The meeting brought together HD Hyundai Vice Chairmen Cho Young-cheul, Cho Seok and Lee Sang-kyun, along with the CEOs of 11 affiliates spanning shipbuilding, marine, energy and construction equipment. Executives reviewed first-half performance and discussed new businesses, long-term growth strategies and plans for navigating changing market conditions in the second half. They also assessed the group’s artificial intelligence transformation strategy, including implementation road maps intended to improve competitiveness. The discussion covered the progress of AI adoption across business units and safeguards against potential information security risks. Chung said most of the group’s businesses had delivered solid results despite difficult market conditions, but warned against allowing near-term performance to shape long-term decisions. “We have paid a heavy price in the past for focusing too much on short-term results and failing to recognize changes in the market,” Chung said. “I will take the lead in creating a management environment that pursues sustainable growth over the next 10 to 20 years, rather than fixating on immediate performance.” He called on executives to prepare more rigorously for the group’s future growth engines while making workplace safety their highest management priority. “The future we envision can be realized only when safety is secured,” Chung said. “I ask everyone to make safety the top management priority and align their capabilities accordingly.” hyejin2@heraldcorp.com
