Chinese chipmaker Hygon Information Technology on Tuesday launched a suite of central processing units (CPUs) for 

[robotics](https://www.scmp.com/business/china-business/article/3368217/swire-coca-cola-gets-robots-heavy-lifting-satisfying-chinese-consumers-thirst?module=inline&pgtype=article)and industrial edge devices, expanding beyond cloud computing and into the fast-growing market for physical artificial intelligence.
The firm unveiled its Hygon 1000 series processors, designed to be embedded into physical devices in 

[industrial automation systems](https://www.scmp.com/economy/china-economy/article/3367877/president-xis-industrial-power-play-sees-china-bet-big-ai-chips-and-smarter-factories?module=inline&pgtype=article)such as robotics and factory controllers, enabling computing and graphics processing to be handled locally.
Built on Hygon’s x86-compatible C86 architecture, the four-core, eight-thread CPU supports both DDR4 and DDR5 memory.
