Unitree, the Hangzhou-based robotics firm, listed on Shanghai's STAR Market in August 2026. Its shares opened at RMB 1,100, a 629% jump from the RMB 150.80 offering price. The debut briefly valued the company at RMB 444.9 billion. Two weeks later, the stock had lost more than half its value.

Unitree's rise captures one side of China's robotics boom. Elsewhere, companies are writing very different chapters of the same story, tackling problems as specific as grasping an unfamiliar object, carrying hotel luggage, or handling repetitive work in a warehouse.

Startups Turn Grasping and Logistics Into Revenue #

For Hefei-based Zerith, useful robots start with an ordinary human action: picking something up. Founded in 2025 by members of Tsinghua University's AI and robotics community, the startup's wheeled H1 robot, priced at RMB 199,000 ($29,000), began global shipments in the second quarter of 2026. Its generalized-grasping systems are designed to handle varied objects and changing environments. By January 2026, Zerith robots had entered commercial settings, including Hefei Xinqiao International Airport. By April, they were also deployed at Olé supermarkets in Shenzhen and Hefei. In March 2026, three pilot robot stores opened in Shanghai, where the top-performing location recorded weekly sales above RMB 20,000 (about $3,000) during the May Day holiday. The company raised more than RMB 100 million in April 2026, by which point its orders had also exceeded RMB 100 million.

Beijing-based RobotEra is tackling manipulation from the hand outward. Founded in 2023 by Tsinghua assistant professor Chen Jianyu and Xi Yue, it develops five-finger dexterous hands alongside humanoid robots, with logistics as an early commercial target. The company's robots are working with China Post and SF Express across more than 10 logistics centers, with orders exceeding RMB 500 million.

Capital has followed quickly. RobotEra raised RMB 1 billion (about $146 million) in March 2026 at a valuation above RMB 10 billion (about $1.46 billion), more than $200 million in another round led by SF Group, and RMB 1 billion in July led by Chengtong Fund.

Zerith and RobotEra illustrate how the boom is splintering into different commercial bets, but both face the same test: whether robots can perform everyday work reliably enough for customers to keep paying for them.

Service Robots Prove Value in Hotels and Banks #

The boom is also spreading beyond warehouses and industrial settings into services, where robots have to work around people rather than production lines.

At a Shangri-La hotel in Shanghai, eight Keenon robots handle greetings, luggage, room deliveries, cleaning and food service. The system reduced demand for repetitive labor by about 30%, improved service response efficiency by roughly 40%, and cut guest waiting times by about 35%.

Founded in Shanghai in 2010 by Li Tong, Keenon built its business around delivery robots before expanding into cleaning and humanoid systems. Its strategy is role-first: specialized robots handle standardized work, while humanoids take on tasks requiring more interaction and flexibility.

Keenon has shipped more than 100,000 robots, with products deployed across more than 70 countries and regions and over 600 cities, spanning restaurants, hotels, healthcare, retail and other service settings.

Keenon's scale shows another side of China's robotics boom: rather than waiting for a general-purpose humanoid to do everything, companies are already using narrower robot systems to test where automation can produce measurable value in everyday service work.

Shenzhen-based Digital Huaxia, founded in 2024, is testing another part of the service market: humanoids designed for more natural human interaction. Its approach combines facial expressions, voice interaction, emotion recognition and memory, but the company is focusing first on business and public-service settings rather than homes.

Its robots have been deployed or piloted in finance, government services, education and healthcare, including more than 20 ICBC branches. Digital Huaxia secured orders at the RMB 100 million level in its first year, with AgiBot participating in its angel financing.

Keenon and Digital Huaxia show how China's robotics boom is moving into human-facing services, where the challenge is not only whether robots can perform useful tasks, but whether they can fit reliably into existing service workflows and deliver measurable value.

China's humanoid robot boom is broadening into a more diverse commercial ecosystem, as investment, production and deployment expand and companies pursue different products, business models and application scenarios. What is emerging is not a single path to commercialization, but a wider market taking shape across industrial and service settings.
