ChatGPT’s iPhone app gets a handy shortcut to attach recent photos more quickly

OpenAI has introduced a new gesture in the ChatGPT iPhone app that lets users long-press the + button to quickly attach one of their four most recent photos to a conversation, as announced by OpenAI's Adam Fry on X. The update, which arrived this week alongside other improvements such as better time awareness and faster web performance, aims to streamline visual searches for users who rely on ChatGPT instead of Apple's Visual Intelligence.

Users who rely on ChatGPT for quick visual searches can now add photos to a conversation more quickly with a new gesture. Here’s how.

ChatGPT makes it easier to attach recent photos to a conversation #

While iOS has had [Visual Intelligence](https://9to5mac.com/guides/visual-intelligence/) for nearly two years, the feature is still limited to relatively recent iPhones and isn’t available in every region.

For users who rely on ChatGPT to perform similar visual searches, attaching a photo meant tapping the + button, then tapping “Photos,” and then selecting an image from their photo library.

While this process wasn’t exactly cumbersome, OpenAI made it a bit faster this week to add recent photos to a conversation with a handy new gesture.

As noted by OpenAI’s Adam Fry on X, users can now long-press the + button on the left-hand side of the prompt box to bring up their four most recent photos.

From there, they can select one of the four photos to attach to the conversation, then ask a question or use it as part of their prompt. The new gesture arrived alongside a few other ChatGPT improvements this week, including better awareness of the current time, faster and performance for long conversations on the web, and clearer UI updates when users are waiting for an internet connection.
