# Celona launches Orion agentic wireless platform built for physical AI and robotics

Today, private wireless provider Celona announced Celona Orion, a unified agentic converged wireless platform that merges private 5G, Wi-Fi, public cellular, and satellite connectivity into a single, deterministic network fabric.

Orion is engineered to support the [connectivity](https://www.therobotreport.com/category/networking-connectivity) demands of physical AI, specifically autonomous vehicles ([AVs](https://www.therobotreport.com/category/robots-platforms/self-driving-vehicles/)), autonomous mobile robots ([AMRs](https://www.therobotreport.com/category/robots-platforms/amrs/)), computer [vision](https://www.therobotreport.com/category/technologies/cameras-imaging-vision/) systems, and edge software agents. The platform marks a shift from legacy device-centric networks to an intelligent, multi-network architecture built for automated enterprise operations, asserted Campbell, Calif.-based Celona.

The [company](https://celona.io/) said that Orion simplifies infrastructure management by offering private 5G and Wi-Fi 7 access points under a single subscription model, along with an [open-source](https://www.therobotreport.com/category/ros-open-source) agent for robotics manufacturers.

Now, AV and AMR vendors can offer more robust connectivity for clients, selectively connecting to the appropriate network depending on the communication demands of the robot or vehicle. For example, an uncrewed hauler at a [mining](https://www.therobotreport.com/category/markets-industries/mining/) site might connect to a private 5G connection during normal operations, and then connect to Wi-Fi at the end of the shift, once inside the garage, for high-speed data downloads and updates.

## What’s new with Celona Orion?

In addition to a unified network fabric, Celona Orion introduces an agentic operations platform for converged wireless. Celona Wi-Fi 7 access points are included at no additional cost.

Using Celona Orion, factory and warehouse customers can deploy Celona private 5G access points plus Celona Wi‑Fi access points to create overlapping canopies. The entire network can then be managed by Orion Orchestrator as a “single pane of glass,” said the company.

“Our operations rely on multiple wireless technologies, each serving a different purpose across environments,” stated Luca Chichiarelli, head of IT operations at tile vendor Del Conca USA. “As we expand automation, we’re connecting more devices, systems, workflows, and workers in more places than ever before. Bringing those networks together under a common platform can simplify operations while maintaining the security, reliability, and control our business requires.”

## Unified management panel allows network moves

Celona said Orion’s key innovation for robotics is control‑plane and data‑plane convergence. Traditionally, robots must **“** pick a side**”** between Wi‑Fi or private 5G, often from different vendors, and they can’t seamlessly move between networks.

Wi‑Fi may struggle with mobile robots, and private 5G can be capacity‑constrained for large overnight data transfers, noted the company. It said Orion enables a single SIM identity on the robot to authenticate on both Celona Wi‑Fi and Celona private 5G while maintaining the robot’s identity when moving between networks.

[Security](https://www.therobotreport.com/category/safety-security/) is architected into the platform rather than added at the edges. This includes SIM-based identity, micro-segmentation for operational technology, and IT/OT separation — all delivered through an in-house software stack and a single trusted supply chain.

Orion is not just a commercial product, but it is also an ecosystem play and can be used with other vendors’ Wi‑Fi or private 5G networks, Celona said.

“For years, enterprises have deployed and managed multiple wireless technologies as a collection of separate networks,” said Rajeev Shah, co-founder and CEO of Celona. “As AI moves into physical operations, those networks must begin to operate as one system.”

“Orion brings these technologies together into a unified fabric, elevating wireless connectivity from a supporting technology to critical infrastructure for modern enterprise operations,” he said.

## Open-source agent supports private and public networks

Celona has also introduced Celona AerConnect, an open-source agent for robotics OEMs. Its goal is to maintain a non-proprietary agent that is aware of all available wireless interfaces and can handle visibility, monitoring, and traffic steering among those interfaces.

The goal of AerConnect is to enable a robotic system to decide which network to use when, such as based on quality thresholds. The endpoint can also decide when to switch due to performance or reliability issues.

Orion integrates the management of Starlink satellite connectivity with private 5G and Wi-Fi, enabling enterprises to extend their wireless fabric to remote and previously unconnected locations. From one platform, teams can bring up private 5G, Wi-Fi, and satellite-backed connectivity wherever operations need to run. New sites can be brought online in hours rather than weeks or months, using the same operating model everywhere, said Celona.

“Wi-Fi and private 5G have matured into essential but largely disconnected enterprise connectivity technologies,” said Brandon Butler, senior research manager for network infrastructure and services at IDC. “Yet as AI workloads and edge computing reshape operational networks, enterprises increasingly need both—not as separate silos, but as a unified, intelligently managed system.”

“In an AI-driven era where connectivity is foundational to business innovation, platforms that converge Wi-Fi and private 5G management, coupled with AI-driven orchestration and insights, address a real operational challenge,” he said. “Celona Orion helps define this emerging category of enterprise wireless platforms designed to simplify management and orchestration while allowing enterprises to leverage the strengths of each technology.”

## Celona AI agents support troubleshooting

Celona said it is moving from traditional AI‑ops toward agentic network operations, where AI agents act like virtual members of the IT/OT team. Troubleshooting is informed by network infrastructure data from Celona Orchestrator, kept local and accessible via Model Context Protocol (MCP) and large language models (LLMs).

Celona Brain, a model trained on the company’s internal documents and code, acts as a digital twin of a Celona engineer. The goal is to bridge the connectivity skill gap for roboticists who are not wireless experts and improve the scalability of physical AI deployments.

Orchestrator AI exposes network capabilities through open, standards-based interfaces and an extensible library of skills and agents built by Celona. These agents can work with an enterprise’s preferred LLM platform and collaborate with other agents across the AI-native enterprise.

The company claimed that the result is a new operating model that elevates wireless teams from network operators to orchestrators of the infrastructure the AI-native enterprise depends on.

“Based on our experience deploying networks with Celona, we’ve seen that most require Wi-Fi and private cellular to work together, with each matched to the applications it supports best — typically Wi-Fi for IT use cases and private cellular for OT,” said Lane Wooldridge, business development lead for advanced wireless solutions at INS. “These use cases increasingly overlap in the same physical spaces, and as IT and OT converge, those environments only grow more complex. Celona’s Orchestrator AI agents can help network teams simplify operations while maintaining the visibility and performance those applications depend on.”
