Michael Muzzin (@muzzin_michael) launched CarSignal on August 17th, pitching the software as a single AI system that can run an independent auto repair shop from the first customer call through the final payment.

Muzzin said in a thread on X that CarSignal is designed to replace the collection of disconnected tools many shops use for those jobs.
Muzzin and co-founder Junaid Popalzai built CarSignal after growing up around mechanic shops. The founders say they watched their families manage the back office with paper, sticky notes and software that did not share data. That history gives their product strategy a clear target: the administrative handoffs between a customer's complaint, a technician's diagnosis, an approved estimate and a paid invoice.
Muzzin studied electrical engineering at UCLA and previously worked at Nvidia, according to CarSignal's Y Combinator launch page. The same page identifies Popalzai as a UC Berkeley electrical engineering and computer science student who previously worked at Tesla, Amazon, Notion and Netflix.
Four agents around one vehicle record
CarSignal divides its AI functions among four agents covering reception, diagnostics, estimates and marketing. The receptionist answers calls and texts, records the conversation and can book an appointment. The diagnostic system weighs trouble codes against a customer's description and the vehicle's service history. The estimate agent prepares parts-and-labor quotes, while the marketing agent follows up on overdue maintenance and declined work.
The underlying product keeps those interactions attached to a single vehicle record. A technician can view assigned work and upload inspection photos from a phone, while the front desk tracks each vehicle's status and the amount awaiting approval or collection. Customers receive estimates by text and can approve individual repairs from their phones.
CarSignal says AI-generated diagnoses remain recommendations that technicians must confirm. Quotes are drafts until a shop employee approves them, and staff can view or take over conversations handled by the receptionist. Those controls matter because an incorrect answer inside repair software can produce a wasted part, a comeback or a safety problem rather than a routine clerical error.
There is one material inconsistency in the launch materials. The YC page says CarSignal uses a custom OBD-II scanner to supply factory-level context to its diagnostic agent. CarSignal's website says shops currently enter codes from their existing scan tools and that a direct connection to the vehicle remains on the roadmap. The software's diagnostic workflow is live, based on CarSignal's description, while the dedicated hardware connection appears unfinished.
CarSignal prices replacement software like a utility
CarSignal charges a flat $200 per month and says that price includes every feature, unlimited users and unlimited invoices. Migration and onboarding are free, and CarSignal offers a 30-day refund while promising to move a shop's data back to its previous system if the customer leaves during that period.
That offer addresses the harder part of selling software to repair shops. CarSignal has to move customer records, vehicle histories and open work without interrupting the service floor. The startup says its software can run alongside an existing system during migration, reducing the risk of asking a shop to switch its operational database in one step.
CarSignal's documentation says parts orders can flow through a shop's suppliers, payments use the shop's Stripe account and paid invoices sync with QuickBooks. CarSignal also compares itself with established shop-management products including Tekmetric, Shopmonkey and Shop-Ware, although the feature and pricing comparison is CarSignal's own assessment.
The startup says it is live in more than 40 shops across 18 states. That figure is self-reported and does not show how many customers are paying, how much repair volume flows through CarSignal or how many shops have fully retired their previous systems. It does show that Muzzin and Popalzai have moved beyond a demonstration product and into the operational work of migrating live repair businesses.
CarSignal's larger bet is that AI can become the system of record for a shop rather than another assistant layered over existing management software. The $200 price, free migration and human approval controls are all built around that bet. The product now has to prove that its diagnostic and customer-facing agents can earn the same trust shops already place in the software that holds their schedules, repair histories and invoices.
