Canada’s biggest bank is locking AI agents like Meta’s Muse out of online banking Royal Bank of Canada will block third-party personal AI agents, including Meta's Muse, from direct access to authenticated RBC digital properties such as online banking, with existing agent connections set to stop working, according to a notice dated October 27 on RBC's own site. An internal memo from group head of technology and operations Naim Kazmi and group head of personal banking Erica Nielsen said such agents "can create unacceptable customer risk," and RBC spokesperson Jeff Lanthier told The Globe and Mail the change may disappoint "the small portion of our clients who use these tools." The move, reported by The Globe and Mail as the first by a Canadian bank, follows comments a week earlier by RBC chief executive Dave McKay to Bloomberg Television that the bank was weighing a block on Meta's Muse, and mirrors US lenders JPMorgan Chase and Charles Schwab, whose leaders Jamie Dimon and Rick Wurster have said they block outside agents.
