Can you legally sell music made with Suno, Udio or another AI generator? The answer depends on which platform, which plan and what "sell" means. Here is the breakdown of commercial rights, ownership and licensing terms across the four major AI music tools in 2026.
The quick answer
Suno Pro ($10/month) grants commercial rights to new songs. ElevenLabs Music ($6/month) offers the cleanest licensing from a verified opt-in dataset. Udio has no downloads at all. Stable Audio Pro ($11.99) covers commercial use with open weights available.
Commercial rights vs ownership: what AI music platforms actually grant #
None of the major AI music generators grant full copyright ownership. The standard model is a commercial license: the platform owns the underlying IP, you get rights to use outputs commercially under specific terms.
Suno changed its language in late 2025 after the Warner Music settlement. The original promise of "you own this" became "you have commercial rights," and the distinction matters for label releases or sync licensing where clean provenance is required. Pro ($10/month, 2,500 credits) and Premier ($30/month, 10,000 credits) include commercial rights on new songs. Free accounts lost downloads entirely.
ElevenLabs Music takes the opposite approach: trained exclusively on Merlin and Kobalt opt-in licensed recordings, it offers the lowest legal risk in the category. Every paid plan from Starter ($6/month) includes commercial use for video, podcasts, games and apps. Restrictions exist for reselling into commercial music libraries and for certain banned sectors.
Stable Audio published full attribution of its 1,278,902 licensed training recordings, backed by UMG and Warner deals. Pro ($11.99/month, 250 tracks) includes commercial rights. The open-weight models (Small, Medium on Hugging Face) are free to use commercially under the Community License for revenues below $1M/year.
Udio signed landmark deals with UMG, Warner, Merlin and Kobalt, but disabled downloads and stems in October 2025. Nothing leaves the platform. Commercial rights sit on the $30 Pro plan and are currently meaningless since export is blocked.

The streaming trap: why Udio subscribers cannot sell anything #
Udio presents the strangest case. It holds licensing deals with all four major rights holders. Its v3.5 model produces the best instrumental fidelity in the category (4.5/5 audio quality rating). The 48 kHz output sounds genuinely professional.
And none of it can leave the platform.
Since October 2025, downloads and stems are disabled pending a "licensed relaunch" that had not shipped by mid-2026. Subscribers paying $10 or $30/month generate music into a walled garden. The Reddit community at r/udiomusic contains threads calling this "an absolute betrayal" from users who spent hundreds of dollars.
