Can't get access to GPT-5.6-Cyber? Palo Alto Networks will take your money

Palo Alto Networks launched an expanded Daybreak program that offers customers access to OpenAI's GPT-5.6-Cyber model for security testing, becoming one of the first vendors to commercialize the model after OpenAI changed its policy. The company said it is putting advanced frontier cyber models to work in customer environments, despite the model not being available for direct commercial use by businesses.

In their attempts to control access to their latest generation of powerful cybersecurity models, the frontier AI model companies are creating a segregated market for security tools in which only select vendors are allowed to sell the most advanced features that businesses need to defend themselves against the capabilities of those very same models.

Palo Alto Networks became one of the first major cybersecurity vendors to take advantage of a change in OpenAI's policy toward its frontier security models with the launch of its expanded Daybreak program earlier this week, announcing plans to offer a security service to customers that employs the forbidden GPT-5.6-Cyber model to test their defenses using a tool they probably aren't allowed to access themselves.

"Today, through our partnership with OpenAI, we are expanding Unit 42 Frontier AI Exposure Analysis to put advanced frontier cyber models directly to work in customer environments," the company said in a blog post Wednesday. "Until now, GPT-5.6 Daybreak has not been available for commercial use," it said, presumably referring to the GPT-5.6-Cyber model introduced this week given that GPT-5.6-Daybreak doesn't exist.
