# Cami Clark influences Anthropic’s direction as key adviser to CEO Dario Amodei

The CEO's wife holds no formal title or equity but has shaped the AI startup's trajectory through elite networking and strategic connections since its founding days.

In Silicon Valley, the most consequential people in any company’s story are often the ones who never appear on an org chart. Cami Clark, wife of Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, is one of them.

Clark holds no official title, draws no salary, and owns no equity in Anthropic. Yet by most accounts, she has been a steady presence behind some of the company’s most important early decisions and relationships, operating as an informal strategic adviser to one of the most closely watched AI labs in the world.

## The network behind the company

The clearest illustration of Clark’s influence sits in Anthropic’s earliest funding history. She helped facilitate a connection with Eric Schmidt, the former Google CEO, that contributed to Schmidt’s participation in Anthropic’s Series A round, which closed in May 2021 at $124 million.

Clark and Amodei first met in 2014, nearly a decade before Anthropic became a household name in AI circles. They married in Italy in 2022.

Her background spans a range of entrepreneurial efforts. She served as head of revenue at Leap Motion, the gesture-control hardware company, from 2016 to 2017. She later pursued ventures including a women-focused adult film business and a women’s health clinic network, neither of which reached significant scale.

Clark has regularly accompanied Amodei to events like Davos and major AI conferences, the environments where Anthropic’s future backers, regulators, and partners spend their time.

## An informal role with formal consequences

In 2021, Clark attempted to establish a dedicated AI investment vehicle operating within Anthropic’s structure. The proposal did not move forward, meeting resistance from other founders at the company.

Anthropic was founded in 2021 by Amodei and his sister Daniela, along with several other former OpenAI researchers. The company has since grown into one of the most heavily funded private AI labs in the world, with its Claude model family competing directly against OpenAI’s GPT series and Google’s Gemini.

Since the Series A that Clark helped seed, Anthropic has attracted billions in investment from backers including Google and Amazon. Anthropic is now reportedly targeting an IPO, potentially as soon as fall 2026, with ambitions that reach into the trillions-of-dollars valuation range.
