AFP LOS ANGELES — California Governor Gavin Newsom announced Friday an executive order to explore the creation of a "kill switch" within advanced artificial intelligence programs, while accusing President Donald Trump of doing nothing on the issue.

"I just issued an executive order to accelerate the implementation of safety checks and advance the creation of a 'kill switch' within frontier AI programs," the Democrat wrote on X.
