I shipped a AI creation saas platform solo — image, video, music and 3D generation, 30+ models behind a routing layer, subscription billing with two payment adapters, an admin backend, a Chrome extension.
Then I launch, and nothing happens.
Here's what I underestimated: the engineering leverage is real, but it only compounds on the build side. Distribution has no equivalent multiplier.
There's no pnpm deploy for "people know this exists." SEO takes months to compound. Paid acquisition needs payment rails live and a working attribution chain before you can even measure it. Every directory listing, every piece of content, every community post is manual, linear work.
My honest estimate now: for every hour spent building, you need something like ten hours on distribution — and unlike code, none of it is reusable infrastructure. You can't refactor your way out of it.
The uncomfortable part is that shipping fast makes this worse, not better. The faster you build, the sooner you're sitting on a finished product with no audience, wondering why the hard part turned out to be the part you thought was easy.
