# Brookfield sees 6.5 GW of AI data center capacity in India, dwarfing current infrastructure

The asset management giant is betting $11 billion on a single AI-native campus as India's data center market prepares to quadruple in size by 2030

India currently has about 1.5 GW of data center capacity. Brookfield Asset Management thinks that number is about to grow by more than four times, projecting 6.5 GW of AI-focused data center capacity coming online in the country.

The projection isn’t just aspirational hand-waving. Brookfield has been backing it up with capital, most notably through an $11 billion joint venture called Digital Connexion, a partnership with Reliance Industries and Digital Realty. That venture alone is targeting a 1 GW AI-native data center campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, with a 2030 completion target.

## A hundred billion dollars and counting

The India push is one piece of a much larger puzzle. Brookfield launched a $100 billion global AI infrastructure program back in November 2025, pulling in NVIDIA and the Kuwait Investment Authority as collaborators.

Brookfield CEO Connor Teskey has called AI infrastructure the company’s “single largest theme.”

The country has historically lagged behind the US, Europe, and parts of Southeast Asia in data center buildout. But a combination of policy support from New Delhi, decreasing resource costs, and a population of 1.4 billion increasingly consuming digital services has changed the math.

## The competitive landscape is heating up

Brookfield isn’t operating in a vacuum. India’s data center market has attracted attention from Adani Group, the Hiranandani Group’s Yotta brand, and a growing list of global hyperscalers looking to establish or expand their Indian footprints.

By teaming up with Reliance Industries, Brookfield gets access to India’s most powerful corporate ecosystem, one that spans telecommunications, retail, and energy. Reliance’s Jio platform alone serves hundreds of millions of digital consumers, creating a natural demand pipeline for the data center capacity being built.

Digital Realty, the other partner in the Connexion venture, brings operational expertise from running data centers across dozens of global markets.

Going from 1.5 GW to 6.5 GW in roughly five years would represent one of the fastest infrastructure buildouts in Indian history.
