Baseten, an AI inference platform that helps companies deploy and serve machine learning models, has closed a $300 million Series E funding round at a $5 billion post-money valuation. The round was co-led by Institutional Venture Partners (IVP) and CapitalG, Google’s growth fund, with Nvidia also participating.
Here’s what makes that number interesting: Baseten was valued at $825 million just about a year earlier. More than doubling from a $2.15 billion mark in late 2025 to $5 billion now suggests investors aren’t just betting on AI hype. They’re betting on the specific plumbing that makes AI actually work in production.
The inference economy is heating up #
Founded in 2021, the company operates Baseten Cloud, a managed inference platform designed to handle the messy reality of deploying AI models at scale. The core problems Baseten tackles, latency, cost, and scalability, are the exact bottlenecks preventing most enterprises from deploying AI beyond proof-of-concept stages.
Before this Series E, Baseten had raised approximately $225 million across earlier rounds, including a $75 million Series C in early 2025 and a $150 million Series D.
Why Nvidia’s involvement matters #
Nvidia’s participation in this round highlights the growing symbiosis between hardware makers and inference infrastructure providers. For Baseten, having Nvidia as an investor creates natural alignment. Better optimization for Nvidia hardware means better performance for Baseten customers, which means more demand for both companies’ products.
CapitalG’s co-lead is equally telling. Google’s growth fund doesn’t write checks casually, and its involvement suggests that even Google, which operates its own massive AI infrastructure, sees value in dedicated inference platforms serving the broader market.
