The problem: getting his hands on enough computing power to actually do the work.
The rent-to-own pitch #
B3 Labs, operating under the brand B3IQ, sells dedicated NVIDIA GPU servers on a rent-to-own basis. Customers put 30% down on a machine, and the company handles hosting, power redundancy, and round-the-clock support at an enterprise-grade data center in Eugene, Oregon.
The hardware is assembled in the US by a firm called Andromeda Insights. Machines range up to frontier-level NVIDIA systems, the kind of silicon that typically lives behind corporate firewalls or inside hyperscaler data centers, not in a grad student’s research pipeline.
For researchers who don’t need their full compute allocation at all times, B3IQ offers a revenue-sharing arrangement. Unused GPU cycles get routed through what the company calls an AI traffic demand network, generating income from day one. Under certain payment projections, B3IQ outlines an 8% interest structure with a potential 47-month payoff timeline.
Why universities are the target market #
B3IQ has specifically courted blockchain and AI research groups at Stanford, Penn, NYU, and Dartmouth.
Bushuyeu’s skin cancer research involves sensitive health data tied to a specific ethnic population. Sending that data to a public cloud introduces compliance headaches and ethical concerns that a dedicated, privately controlled server neatly sidesteps.
The crypto layer #
B3IQ operates within B3 Labs’ broader ecosystem, which includes a native B3 token. The token facilitates payments for GPU compute services, workflow execution, and staking within the network.
No major funding announcements have surfaced recently for B3IQ, and the platform is live at b3iq.org.
