Devin's autonomous coding capabilities are now available through AWS Marketplace, targeting the multi-trillion-dollar legacy software problem.
Migrating a decades-old COBOL codebase is roughly as fun as it sounds. It is expensive, slow, and prone to the kind of errors that make engineers age rapidly. Cognition and AWS think their partnership, centered on the autonomous AI agent Devin, can change that calculus significantly.
Devin is now available through the AWS Marketplace, giving enterprise customers a path to deploy an AI agent that handles the full software engineering lifecycle: planning, writing, testing, and delivering production-ready pull requests without a human doing the heavy lifting at each step.
What Devin actually does #
Cognition launched Devin in March 2024, positioning it as an autonomous software engineering agent capable of handling large-scale code analysis, refactoring, and cloud migration work.
The AWS integration sharpens that focus on legacy modernization. Devin can handle migrations from COBOL to AWS Lambda, converting decades-old mainframe logic into serverless cloud functions, a task that traditionally consumes months of senior engineering time.
One reported use case: migrating 14,000 dashboards from Redshift to Snowflake at 5.2 times the originally projected speed. That kind of throughput is the difference between a multi-year modernization program and something that actually finishes.

The cost implications are equally significant. Some use cases have shown a 73% reduction in expenses when updating legacy codebases, according to Cognition.
Devin’s workflow integrates natively with AWS infrastructure, supporting role-based access controls and consolidated billing through the Marketplace.
Cognition’s position in the AI engineering market #
Cognition raised over $2B in a Series E funding round in September 2026, reaching a valuation of $48B. Run-rate revenue is approaching $900M, driven largely by enterprise adoption across sectors that need serious infrastructure modernization.
Recent updates to Devin introduced what Cognition calls a multi-model ‘Fusion’ architecture. The idea is to route different parts of a task to whichever underlying model handles that task best, rather than forcing everything through a single model. In practice, that means better accuracy on complex refactoring work and lower compute costs per task.
The AWS Marketplace listing extends Devin’s reach to AWS’s existing enterprise customer base without requiring Cognition to build its own enterprise sales motion from scratch.
