Avatars Now in Beta for Telnyx Voice AI Assistants Telnyx launched a beta of Avatars for its Voice AI Assistants, letting developers add video to existing voice agents using six preset avatars rendered by the foxtrot-1 model on Telnyx infrastructure. The feature is enabled through an avatar_settings object in the assistant API, with provider "telnyx", avatar_id and background_id fields, and does not convert every conversation into a video session. Telnyx positions the built-in avatar model as an alternative to third-party avatar vendors, keeping audio and video on the same network and control plane. Adding a face to a voice agent used to mean adding a vendor: a third-party avatar service sitting between your assistant and the caller, with its own API, its own latency, and its own contract. The avatar model runs on Telnyx infrastructure instead, next to your assistant's voice, transcription, and tools. Video becomes a setting on the assistant you already have, not another integration to maintain.
