Students are [rapidly losing the ability to read](https://futurism.com/future-society/college-students-losing-ability-read), having long turned to AI tools to [write essays](https://futurism.com/the-byte/professors-alarmed-ai-undergrads) and other assignments.\n\nTeachers are returning to the use of pen and paper, [banning laptops and smartphones](https://futurism.com/future-society/law-school-bans-laptops-ai) amidst an [AI cheating crisis](https://futurism.com/artificial-intelligence/brown-university-professor-cheating-scandal-ivy-league).
