Getting your
Trinity Audioplayer ready...The highly anticipated Asia Live, a landmark food palace from the noted culinary team of George Chen and Cindy Wong-Chen, has finally — and quietly — opened its doors at Westfield Valley Fair in Santa Clara.
In 15,000 square feet over two stories, the emporium will introduce diners to culinary highlights from throughout Asia, much like how its mall neighbor, Eataly, has steeped diners in the regional specialties of Italy.
The couple made their mark in San Francisco with China Live, a food hall that opened in 2017. “Silicon Valley gives us a new stage to share that story,” chef Chen said Tuesday in his announcement of the official public opening. “The intention is to respectfully showcase Asia’s hospitality and diverse culinary and design traditions, presenting them in a manner that resonates with contemporary international audiences.”
Now operating — 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily — are restaurants that feature open cooking stations. Customers can watch through observation windows as the chefs, bakers and creators put on a culinary show at the kitchens separated into Woks & Grills; Noodle Making & Dumplings; Charcuterie Barbecue & Tandoori; Sushi & Yakiniku; and Shave Ice & Asian Bakery.
The retail marketplace, with Cindy Wong-Chen’s global finds, is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
BarLucy is already serving from 5 p.m. daily. The outdoor Pergola Bar & Cafe with alfresco seating for 50 will make its debut July 1, as will the ground-level cocktail bar in the sushi area. The takeout service, Asia Live On-the-Go, with specialties such as Sheng Jian Bao, the pork dumplings, and Peking Duck, roasted and served with a seasonal fruit glaze — will begin that day also.
Longer term, a rooftop terrace will be added to the complex.
Situated at the entrance to Valley Fair’s restaurant row, Asia Live joins a long lineup of Asian restaurants that includes Din Tai Fung, Ramen Nagi, Koja Kitchen, Marugame Udon, AnQi Shaken & Stirred, Baekjeong Korean BBQ, Habitant, IJ Sushi Burrito, Tai Er Sichuan, Ruby Thai, Sarku Japan, Ox 9 Lanzhou Pulled Noodles, Onigilly Japanese Kitchen, along with several casual cafes and beverage shops.
