Apogee: Mozilla Killed Orbit. I Rebuilt It Locally and Privately Developer darshi1337 released Apogee, an open-source (MIT) browser extension that summarizes articles, videos, PDFs, DOCX files, and pasted text entirely on-device using WebGPU, WebAssembly, or a local Ollama or llama.cpp server, with no API keys, accounts, backend, or cloud upload. Apogee is positioned as a local-first replacement for Mozilla's discontinued Orbit project, which relied on remote Mistral 7B servers and cached page summaries remotely. The extension is available on the Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons, and downloads its chosen model on first run, after which cached models run offline. A private AI summarizer in your browser for articles, videos, PDFs, DOCX files, and pasted text. It runs on WebGPU, WebAssembly, or your own local Ollama or llama.cpp server.
