On Wednesday, Anthropic announced the “research preview” of a new agentic platform called Claude Duet. It has its own app on iOS and Android, and [apparently at least some influencers are getting access](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYb5w4PfPZM). But for the time being Anthropic says to “[join the waitlist](https://claude.com/product/claude-duet)“ if you’re interested—that is if you’re a Claude Pro or Max subscriber.

Anthropic is decidedly not following the lead of its competitors in the consumer-facing agent space by making Claude Duet cute (not yet, anyway). OpenAI’s Dots platform has a line of mascots that [look sorta like cut-rate Pixar characters](https://gizmodo.com/with-dots-openai-wants-you-to-stop-being-afraid-of-its-ai-agents-2000819082). Meta’s Muse is represented by a [Totoro-type thing that also resembles a furry thumb](https://gizmodo.com/dont-believe-his-lies-2000816936). Claude Duet’ logo is just a scribble, like every other Anthropic product. It’s not for adult babies, apparently. You might say it’s the [Arch Deluxe](https://www.mensjournal.com/news/30-years-ago-mcdonalds-launched-the-arch-deluxe-one-of-the-most-expensive-flops-of-all-time) of AI agents—so far at least.

Anthropic’s announcement post for Duet says the company “designed it around Claude Opus 5.5,” though they conspicuously don’t say it *exclusively* uses that top-tier model. But with no apparent free tier, it sounds proactive and token-happy. It’s clearly pitched at professionals, rather [like OpenAI’s Dots](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXspbC2srEQ). It’s very much not aimed at people in their early 20s who have a hard time adulting, [like Muse](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XO244jk7xH4).

Anthropic offers up some brief case studies showing how testers supposedly use it. Here’s one:

*Mya had a call coming up with a potential client. Claude Duet saw it on her calendar and prepared a brief. It also noticed the call fell right before her flight and offered to move it. “I didn’t realize that it was right before my flight,” she said. “I love that proactivity.”*

The tool connects to various accounts and online services via [Claude’s existing connectors and plugins](https://claude.com/marketplace/connectors-plugins)—these are the tools that allow Claude to natively connect with software like Slack and Gmail. There are 6,000 such connectors now, Anthropic notes in its post—that means lots and lots of services that contain your personal and financial data. “Coming soon,” Anthropic writes, “with your permission, it will be able to sign in to sites with logins you’ve saved in 1Password.” Hey, no rush, Anthropic. Take your time with that one.

Anthropic’s performance concerns, however, sound more benign. This early version “still might misread a thread or miscalibrate what’s urgent.” Anthropic includes a long section on safety and security, but mostly just repeats that it has all the same measures as Claude and Claude Code.

At any rate, it’s getting a more straightforward pitch than it’s competitors, and for what it’s worth, Anthropic isn’t trying to short circuit your healthy distrust of AI tech by adding big, babydoll eyes to Claude. Besides, even if you were charmed by Duet, you probably won’t be able to try it today anyway.
