Anthropic's Thariq Shihipar: MCPs are better than CLIs for most integrations

Anthropic engineer Thariq Shihipar said on X that MCPs are better than CLIs for most integrations, citing improved model tool calling, deferred tools, and MCP now being stateless. Shihipar added that the one remaining issue with MCP is piping local file data into them, where CLIs still work better, and advised adding params like query to MCP tools for composing or filtering data.
