The AI company finally brings its desktop application to Linux after years of community requests, bundling Claude Code and Cowork features into the beta.

Anthropic has released a beta version of its Claude Desktop app for Linux, expanding the artificial intelligence assistant beyond Windows and macOS.

The Linux app includes Claude’s Chat, Cowork and Code interfaces. Users can run multiple coding sessions, review visual code changes, access an integrated terminal and editor, and preview applications without leaving the desktop client.

The beta officially supports Ubuntu 22.04 or later and Debian 12 or later across x86_64 and Arm64 systems. Other Debian based distributions may work, though Anthropic said they have not been formally tested.

Users can install the app through Anthropic’s apt repository, allowing future versions to arrive through normal system updates. Anthropic also offers downloadable deb packages, though installations made through that method do not receive automatic repository updates.

The Code tab gives Claude direct access to local project files and allows users to review and approve changes as they are made. Access to Claude Code requires a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise subscription.

Some features remain unavailable during the Linux beta. Claude cannot yet control apps or the screen on Linux, while voice dictation is limited to the command line interface. Fedora and Red Hat Enterprise Linux are also not officially supported, though Anthropic said support for more distributions is planned.
