The AI safety company behind Claude is tripling its international workforce and chasing a 9x revenue surge across EMEA.
Anthropic, the company behind the Claude family of AI models, is planting its flag in Milan. The move makes Italy the sixth European market where the company has established a physical presence in less than twelve months.
For a company that only came into existence in 2021, the pace of geographic expansion is striking. Anthropic now operates offices in London, Dublin, Zurich, Paris, Munich, and Milan.
Why Milan, why now #
The short answer: follow the money. Anthropic’s run-rate revenue in the EMEA region has increased more than 9x year-over-year.
Chris Ciauri, Anthropic’s international managing director, framed Italy as a logical progression after the company’s recent moves into France and Germany.
The company has also signaled plans to triple its international workforce.
The European AI land grab #
Founded by siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei, both former members of OpenAI’s leadership team, Anthropic has built its brand around AI safety and responsible development.
The 9x revenue growth figure in EMEA is particularly notable because it suggests Anthropic isn’t just opening offices speculatively. Revenue is already there. The offices are catching up to demand rather than trying to create it.
