Anthropic has started asking Claude users to share their voice conversations so the company can use them to train and improve its AI models. The request appears as a prompt when people use Claude's voice features, and Anthropic has added a matching option to Claude's Privacy settings. Sharing is optional, and the setting is turned off by default in the interface seen so far.
The prompt reads "Allow us to use your voice data to improve our AI models." It adds that "audio recordings and voice chat data help improve how Anthropic AI models understand and respond to speech," and tells users they can turn the option off or delete the data at any time in settings. Users can respond with either Allow or Not now.
Claude Voice Training Uses a Separate Privacy Toggle #
Voice data has its own control. Anthropic already offers an option to let it use regular chats and Claude Code sessions for model training, and the new voice setting is independent of that choice.
Two combinations are possible as a result. A user can allow training on voice conversations while keeping regular chats and coding sessions excluded, or share text chats while keeping voice recordings out of training.
Inside Settings > Privacy, the new option is labeled "Allow us to use your voice data." Anthropic's description in the setting reads: "For approved sessions, allow the use of your audio recordings and voice chat data to improve Anthropic AI models."
Anthropic says users can switch the option off later and delete their voice data from settings if they change their mind.
The voice request follows other recent Claude changes, including the launch of the Claude Marketplace with 2,000 connectors in late September.
Claude users who want to check or change the setting can do so in a few steps:
- Open Claude and go to Settings.
- Select Privacy.
- Find the option labeled "Allow us to use your voice data."
- Leave it off to keep voice recordings out of training, or turn it on to share audio from approved sessions.
- Check the separate training option for chats and Claude Code sessions, since changing the voice toggle does not affect it.
Users who tap Allow in the voice prompt by mistake can reverse the decision with the same toggle and delete the voice data from settings.
The prompt and the setting text do not state how long approved voice recordings are kept, and Anthropic has not said whether the request is shown to all Claude users or only to some accounts so far.
