Speaking at the SuperAI summit in Singapore, Siu projected a future of 200 billion autonomous AI agents running on blockchain rails
Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, stood on stage at the SuperAI summit in Singapore this week and made a prediction that should give Silicon Valley . Asia, not the West, will lead the convergence of artificial intelligence and blockchain technology.
His reasoning is less about hype and more about pragmatism. The region’s relationship with finance and innovation, Siu argued, is simply less politically charged, making it more adaptable to the rapid adoption cycles that crypto and AI demand.
200 billion AI agents and the blockchain they’ll need #
The core of Siu’s thesis at the June 10-11 summit rests on a staggering number: up to 200 billion AI agents operating autonomously in the future. Not chatbots answering customer service questions. Autonomous agents that negotiate, transact, and execute commerce on their own.
Siu positioned this not as a distant sci-fi scenario but as an inevitable economic shift. AI agents negotiating supply chains, executing financial contracts, managing digital assets. All without a human clicking “approve.”
Animoca’s $10 million bet on agentic AI #
Siu isn’t just talking. Around June 1, roughly a week before the summit, Animoca Brands launched a $10 million fund specifically targeting early-stage agentic AI ventures. The fund is designed to nurture startups building at the intersection of AI autonomy and blockchain infrastructure.
Animoca Brands has been building toward this moment for years. The company started life as a mobile gaming outfit back in 2014, then pivoted hard into blockchain gaming and NFTs around 2018. Since that pivot, it has financially supported over 600 projects spanning AI and blockchain.
Why Asia, and why now #
Siu’s argument for Asian leadership in this space is cultural and structural, not just technological. He emphasized that Asia’s approach to finance is less polarized than what you see in Western markets, where crypto still triggers allergic reactions in certain regulatory and institutional circles.
Look at the landscape. Singapore hosts events like SuperAI. Hong Kong has been actively courting crypto firms. Japan has a regulatory framework for digital assets that predates most Western equivalents. South Korea’s retail crypto trading volumes routinely rival those of much larger economies.
Siu’s point isn’t that Western technology is inferior. It’s that the adoption environment matters as much as the technology itself. When regulators, investors, and consumers are culturally predisposed to experiment with new financial tools, integration happens faster.
What this means for investors #
The $10 million agentic AI fund from Animoca is also worth watching as a leading indicator. Early-stage funds from strategically positioned firms often signal where institutional money flows 12 to 18 months later.
