AMD buys chip startup Taalas to boost inference hardware

AMD has agreed to acquire Canadian custom silicon startup Taalas for an undisclosed amount, integrating its technology into its AI accelerator roadmap and Instinct GPUs to target the growing inference market. Taalas raised $219 million across funding rounds, including a $169 million Series B in February 2026.
