# AMD buys chip startup Taalas to boost inference hardware > Source: > Published: 2026-08-07 11:40:13+00:00 [inference](/tag/inference/) AMD could soon develop model-specific chips after buying custom silicon startup Taalas to help it target a growing inference market. The chip maker said Thursday it had agreed a deal to buy the Canadian startup for an undisclosed amount, with plans to integrate its technology into its AI accelerator roadmap and develop "system-level solutions" with its Instinct GPUs.
