The small electric vehicle generated 2,238 purchase orders, representing 68 percent of Wuling’s total sales volume over the 11-day exhibition in Tangerang. Buyers overwhelmingly favored the longer-range option, with 2,073 orders placed for the Long Range variant compared to 165 for the base Standard Range model. The Aira EV also accounted for 1,648 of the 2,203 total test drives recorded at the Wuling display, earning the model the show’s Most Driven EV Passenger award. Assembled at Wuling’s manufacturing facility in Cikarang, West Java, the Aira EV serves as an updated evolution of the company’s compact electric platform. The micro car is designed specifically for commuting across congested metropolitan areas, narrow secondary streets and high-density urban parking areas. Pricing for the Aira EV begins at 155 million Indonesian rupiah ($9,600) for the Standard Range version, while the Long Range variant retails for 175 million rupiah ($10,800). The powertrain relies on a single rear-mounted electric motor generating 40 horsepower and 85 Newton-meters of torque. Driving range varies according to battery configuration. The Standard Range model carries a 16.2-kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate battery pack providing a claimed driving range of up to 205 kilometers under CLTC testing cycles. The Long Range version uses a 25.1-kWh battery that extends claimed range to 301 kilometers. Recharging times depend on battery size and charging equipment. Using direct-current fast chargers, both battery options replenish from 30 percent to 80 percent capacity in 35 minutes. Standard alternating-current charging from a dedicated home plug requires 4.8 hours for the 16.2-kWh battery and 7.2 hours for the 25.1-kWh unit. The Aira EV measures 3,268 millimeters in length, 1,550 millimeters in width and 1,575 millimeters in height, riding on a 2,190-millimeter wheelbase. Exterior design features include rounded headlights, chrome trim across the front fascia, 13-inch steel wheels with cloverleaf covers and a nose-mounted charging port door. Inside, the cabin features a simplified two-tone dashboard layout with seating for four passengers. Controls include a column-mounted gear selector stalk and door-mounted power window switches. Equipment levels differ between the two available trims. The base Standard Range model includes a 7-inch digital instrument panel, manual climate controls, tire pressure monitoring and a two-speaker audio setup with Bluetooth connectivity. The variant uses front disc and rear drum brakes with a mechanical handbrake, omitting a central touchscreen display and reverse camera. The Long Range trim adds a 10.1-inch central touchscreen display, keyless entry, push-button start, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, rear disc brakes, electronic stability control, hill hold control and a reverse parking camera. Cargo capacity behind the rear seats measures 170 liters, expanding to 838 liters with the 50-50 split rear bench folded flat. Wuling also offered a limited-edition collaboration featuring a Disney-Pixar Toy Story decal package. The company made 300 custom decal packages available for the Long Range variant at the show’s opening, priced at 175 million rupiah. During the exhibition, Wuling executed 147 immediate direct customer handovers of the Long Range variant through its on-site purchasing program. Beyond the Aira EV, Wuling displayed 21 vehicles at its exhibition booth, spanning battery electric, plug-in hybrid and internal combustion models. Alongside established electric models like the BinguoEV hatchback, Wuling highlighted its plug-in hybrid technology in the Darion MPV and Eksion crossover. Following the Aira EV, the Darion EV generated Wuling’s second-highest order volume at the show with 517 units, while the Eksion EV recorded 179 orders. The expansion of plug-in hybrid options reflects changing buyer demands in Indonesia. While compact micro-EVs appeal to urban commuters, multi-person households frequently travel between provinces where charging infrastructure remains sparse. Plug-in hybrids allow families to operate in all-electric mode for daily city driving while using gasoline power for long-distance highway travel. Wuling opened its Cikarang plant in 2017, becoming one of the first Chinese vehicle manufacturers to establish large-scale assembly operations in Indonesia. Local manufacturing allows Wuling to meet Indonesia’s domestic content rules, known as TKDN. Vehicles meeting local component thresholds qualify for government tax relief, including a reduced Value-Added Tax rate of 1 percent instead of the standard 11 percent levy. Localized parts sourcing also protects vehicle pricing from international shipping disruptions and import tariffs.
