All writing must be your own original work. You are the author; while we permit limited use of AI in your research and editing process, we’re paying you for your unique voice and experience.
You may use generative AI tools to:
-
Compile research and reference materials, like you’d use a search engine. LLMs hallucinate; verify all facts against primary sources.
-
Improve spelling and grammar.
-
Generate code. (Provided you test and understand it end-to-end.) You may not use generative AI to:
-
Shape the outline, structure, or narrative arc of your article.
-
Generate any portion of the contents, including individual sentences or paragraphs.
-
Produce any text that accompanies your article (including social copy and metadata).
-
Create images or visualizations.
If you use AI, note it briefly when you submit the draft (e.g., "I used [tool] to check spelling" or "I used [tool] to research [topic]"). If you're unsure if a specific use is permitted, ask before you start working — not after. Content which violates this policy will be rejected. Repeated or undisclosed violations will result in termination of your contract.
