If I understand correctly, you’re asking whether such a system, with AIs behaving according to classical evolutionary rules of natural living beings, could lead to problems like “cognitive cancer.” If so, it’s not a stupid question at all, because AIs are notoriously verbose and prolix when writing code, by their very nature. So, in a system where they continually self-reprogram for survival, abnormal growth of redundant code, detrimental to the model’s efficiency, could become a serious problem.

A bootstrap agent could start with a set budget of digital capital, register its weights on Hugging Face, and pay an external decentralized GPU provider to spin up a secure compute container to host its inference endpoint.
From there, it can fund a cloud-native agent harness via automated payment protocols. The resulting cloud-native agent effectively manages its own compute overhead and API costs. To survive, it must optimize its workflows to remain financially viable, while the human developer retains the underlying cryptographic access keys as an absolute killswitch.
