participation are developers slowly giving away?”\nOne thing many non-developers miss is that different models behave very differently in real workflows.\nFor example:\nThat means prompting itself has quietly become an engineering layer.\nNot just “asking questions.”\nBut:\nA surprising amount of modern development is now:\nengineering the AI interaction layer.\nWhich creates another strange shift:\ndevelopers increasingly optimize communication with models instead of directly interacting with systems themselves.\nThat is a fascinating cultural transition.\nOne observation that keeps standing out to me:\nThere are now hundreds of thousands of AI tools.\nBut underneath them, only a very small number of foundational models are powering most of the ecosystem.\nA huge percentage of AI strange future possibility:\nThe issue is not whether AI can generate code.\nIt clearly can.\nThe issue is:\nhow future developers build deep intuition if participation itself keeps shrinking.\nBecause engineering maturity usually comes from prolonged interaction with complexity.\nAnd complexity is increasingly being abstracted away.\nThere is also an economic contradiction inside the AI boom that feels under-discussed.\nMost companies want:\nThat logic makes sense individually.\nBut collectively, there is a difficult question underneath it:\nIf AI systems reduce large portions of knowledge work over time…\nWho becomes the customer?\nWho pays for:\nTechnology ecosystems still depend on humans participating economically.\nWhich makes the current “replace as much labor as possible” mindset feel unstable long-term.\nEspecially when advanced AI access itself is becoming increasingly premium.\nI still think AI is one of the most useful technologies developers have received in years.\nIt helps with:\nI use these systems constantly.\nMost developers probably do now.\nBut I also think there is a meaningful difference between:\nThat line matters.\nBecause once developers stop understanding the systems underneath the output, the role slowly changes from:\nengineer\nto:\noperator.\nAnd maybe that is the deeper shift happening right now.\nNot just automation of work.\nBut gradual outsourcing of engineering cognition itself.\nA lot of AI discussions focus on:\nBut honestly, I think a quieter issue may arrive much earlier.\nConvenience changes behavior.\nAnd AI is becoming the most powerful convenience layer software has ever introduced.\nThe risk may not be that machines become too intelligent.\nThe risk may be that humans slowly stop engaging deeply with difficult thinking because instant generation becomes easier than understanding.\nThat applies to:\nAnd maybe the long-term divide in tech will not be:\ndevelopers vs AI\nBut:\ndevelopers who still understand systems deeply\nversus\ndevelopers who only orchestrate outputs.\nThat feels like a much more realistic future.\nI don’t think the solution is rejecting AI.\nThat would be unrealistic.\nAI is already embedded deeply into engineering workflows.\nBut maybe the goal should not be:\nremoving humans from engineering completely.\nMaybe the goal should be:\nreducing friction while preserving understanding.\nBecause engineering is not just about shipping outputs.\nIt is about:\nThose things still matter.\nEven if generation becomes instant.\nAnd
